Art & Clay on Main invites emerging artists to participate in the Artist in Residence (AIR) program where they can hope to develop a working portfolio and produce exhibition-quality artwork. This will provide a time of reflection, research, presentation and/or production. Artistic abilities will be further enriched by community connections through meeting new people and visiting museums, galleries, and artists’ studios.

Ideal candidates should be self-motivated and able to work well independently.

Residencies include communal studio space, instruction, input, exchange of ideas and much more. Under the direction of artist Pam Whiteley, artists will have the opportunity to receive constructive direction and feedback on their work while engaging with fellow artists in a vibrant atmosphere that fosters creativity and innovation.

Application Process

Artists will complete an application in addition to submitting a project proposal. Content of proposal should include a statement of intent, projected costs or supplies needed and projected working period. Please submit work samples that include title, media, dimensions and date completed to support the statement of intent. (Maximum of 5 jpg images and 2 detail images) The submission will be reviewed by a panel of artistic adjudicators.

Click here for a copy of the application form.

Deadlines are July 1st and January 1st

There is no participation fee; however, this is also an unpaid residency. The studio is budgeted to cover some supply costs. Costs outside of this will need to be determined during the selection process.

Working periods vary in length depending on the project. Artists are welcome to utilize the studio within its hours of operation to meet their project needs. Artists’ schedules and projected term of residency need to be submitted to the Studio Coordinator during the selection process. The studio is located at Art & Clay on Main at 150 West Main Street and shares a space with Square 7 Coffee House.
